Runes of the old Futhark
Runes scratch no one, he guesses (understands) not how it stands around it
(Egil’s Saga, 12th century)
What are runes?
Runes – we often come into contact with them through an oracle, similar to tarot cards.
Are runes comparable to tarot cards?
The fact that runes are powerful beings becomes clear very quickly, at least very quickly.
But what are these mystical runes anyway?
And where do the runes come from?
They come from the Celts, don’t they, or the Germanic tribes?
Oh no – in Tolkien’s great work “Lord of the Rings”, both the dwarves and the elves work with runes, right?
Hmm…
Do you know how to carve (the runes)? Do you know how to guess (interpret)?
Do you know how to dye (with blood or ochre)? Do you know how to ask (the gods)?
Do you know how to ask (for advice and help)? Do you know how to sacrifice (what do you want to give)?
Do you know how to send (murmur, speak)? Do you know how to slaughter (what belongs away)?
Runes today
Runes may be seen and used differently today than they were 2-3 thousand years ago. And runes have nothing to do with a nationalist movement.
But what are runes then?
In this workshop we will
– Discuss the 24 runes of ancient Futhark
– Learn what runes are and what runes were used for
– Write and carve the first runes yourself
– Get to know today’s modern applications of the ancient magic signs
If you like, you can make your own rune amulet here in the workshop – wooden blanks are available.
You don’t need any prior knowledge – just interest and an open mind.
You can get an overview of the runes of the old FUTHARK in one of our rune workshops.
You are also welcome to make your own rune set in another workshop after you have dealt with the mysterious magic signs. -> Workshop Making Runes Yourself
We look forward to seeing you!
